The Order of Dark Rifles
Induction into the Order of the Dark Rifle
1. The Order of the Dark Rifle is founded upon the principle that one individual can change outcomes, make the difference, and win the day both on and off the battlefield. This principle found form in the high mountain forests that Robert Roger’s Rangers crossed to raid Saint Francis changing the outcome of the French and Indian War, as well as the muddy WWI trenches where SGT Alvin York infiltrated behind German lines and destroyed German machine gun emplacements. Of particular note for our illustrious regiment is the example of 161 Regiment medic, Laverne Parrish, who rushed forward into Japanese machine gun fire and against all odds “saved many lives at the cost of his own.” Warriors across the ages can attest to the fact that one tenacious individual can influence decades. Those individuals catalogued here have forged, furthered, or fortified the fighting spirit of the Dark Rifles leaving an indelible legacy that the Battalion Commander has now the honor to uphold.
2. Selection into the Order is made by nomination to the Battalion Commander and Command Sergeant Major. The inductee must exhibit the qualities of those described above by changing outcomes, making the difference, and bringing honor to this Battalion. Inductee's name will be forever catalogued in this book which was forged through intense effort to represent his/her service in order to leave a lasting signal for generations of Dark Rifles to follow.
3. Since the inductee has meaningfully contributed to the heritage of this organization, it is now our mission to uphold your legacy. Although the Soldiers of 3rd Battalion will change over time, this catalogue will be handed down from Battalion Commander to Battalion Commander. In doing so, the members of this Order will always accompany this Battalion wherever it goes as a testament that one person can make a difference, change the outcome, and win the day.
